Ben Whistler

A distinctive lacquer technique used for many centuries in the production of Chinese and Japanese tableware. The lacquer is removed from a tree and can colour is generally restricted to the distinctive red or black hues, achieved by the addition of Iron Oxides. This form of lacquering is very specialist and is not widespread in contemporary furniture production.
